Easter brings fun and happy times for many families. Spring is in the air, and it’s always a lovely time of year to have a fun springtime celebration with family and friends! And of course any time is a great time to read timely stories with your kiddos!

Here are some Easter-time storybooks with some classic childhood favorite characters that you can share and enjoy with the kids this year.

Clifford’s First Easter by Norman Bridwell – This lift-the-flap board book for little ones tells the story of the first year that Emily spends Easter with her dog Clifford. Vivid pictures of everyone’s favorite big red dog will keep the little ones happy this Easter with the cutest little red puppy there ever was.

Clifford’s Big Red Easter by Nancy Parent – Clifford and Emily Elizabeth make Easter baskets for Clifford’s friends and Clifford even gets a special Easter surprise – Clifford-sized treats just for him!

Clifford’s Happy Easter by Norman Bridwell – Clifford wants to help Emily paint Easter eggs but they found out last year that his paws were too big to help decorate without smashing them so this year he just gets to watch. But when Emily Elizabeth falls asleep thinking about Easter eggs and has a colorful dream, they get to have a fun Easter adventure together that way!

Happy Easter, Little Critter by Mercer Mayer – Everyone’s favorite Little Critter celebrates Easter with his family by enjoying all the holiday favorite traditions – Easter egg hunts, getting Easter baskets, going to church, dyeing eggs, eating treats, etc.

Happy Easter, Mouse! by Laura Numeroff – A colorful tale about numbers, colors, and Easter eggs, this board book goes on a fun Easter egg hunt with Mouse from the popular If You Give a Mouse a Cookie story.

Happy Easter Curious George by H. A. Rey – The man with the yellow hat heads to the park with George, where George meets an Easter bunny, sees kids dyeing their Easter eggs for the holiday and even “helps” with an Easter egg hunt!

Spot’s Easter Surprise by Eric Hill – Spot, another favorite pup, gets to go to his grandparents’ house and hunt for Easter eggs with his friends. But even after everyone finds an egg, a special surprise is still waiting in the bushes for Grandma and Grandpa to cap off a very fun Easter morning. A fun Spot story for the little ones to read with the grandparents!

Peppa’s Easter Egg Hunt by Scholastic – Join Peppa, Freddy Fox, and Rebecca Rabbit as they hunt for the chocolate eggs in the Easter egg hunt that Grandpa Pig has set up for them, and enjoy the excitement with them as they get to witness baby chicks hatching in the yard!

The Berenstain Bears and the Real Easter Eggs by Jan and Stan Berenstain – A classic tale from a classic bear family, this story, while not overtly religious, zeroes in on a “reason for the season” theme to remind Brother and Sister Bear about the important things behind holidays – even holidays with exciting things like Easter egg hunts, chocolates, and prizes – and to be aware of the greater meaning and value behind holidays than just the fun, trivial ways we celebrate them.

Happy Easter reading!
