12 Fun Family Events in Chicago This August

August is an awesome time to enjoy some great family fun in Chicago with the kids! 

Here are some of the best family-friendly events in Chicago this August: 

1. Go See Some Bears (Football Practice, that is!)

August 1-10

Do you have a little football fan, or do you hope to create one? You can give them a boost by registering online to watch the Chicago Bears Training Camp for free at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais this month!

2. Attend a Movie in the Parks

August 1-September 9

With 130 different free Movies in the Parks to choose from, you’re sure to find a fun flick to watch with the kids! Movies begin at dusk, and dates are dependent on weather. 

3. Mangia, Mangia at the Italian festival!

August 2-4

Eat some delicious Italian food, enjoy the three different stages for music and dancing, and check out the various vendors at the Festa Italiana in Naperville. 

4. Introduce Your Kids to Classical Music at the Classical Music Festival

August 2-17, 2019 

The rear seats are free, or you can bring a blanket or lawn chairs for you and the kids to the outdoor Grant Park Music Festival at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. It’s a great family-friendly way to introduce the kids to some wonderful classical music!

5. Get Corny with the Kids at the Corn Festival

August 3

At Community Church in Rolling Meadows, you can check out the bazaar, arts & craft fair, and enjoy the hot dog, brat, or hamburger (plus soda, watermelon, and all-you-can-eat fresh-picked corn!) that comes with your ticket to this fun Corn Fest!

 6. Feel Magical at the Fairy Festival

August 3-4

Come enjoy costumes, dance, games, shopping, music, and tea parties at The World of Faeries Festival at Vasa Park in South Elgin.

7. Get Ye to the Renaissance Fair

Weekends August 3-September 2

16th century England comes alive on weekends with jousting knights, artisan markets, costumed minstrels, games, and shows at the fun Bristol Renaissance Faire in Kenosha, WI.

8. Get International at the French Fair

August 6

Take the kids to enjoy the French food (and wine the parents!), music, art, activities, and films at Art dans la Rue in Oak Park.

9. Get Retro on Roscoe

August 9-11

A local favorite, 3 stages showcase some great entertainment while you browse and shop 6 blocks of art and antique vendors, and take the kids to check out the 50 classic cars at Retro on Roscoe in Roscoe Village. 

10. Enjoy the African American Parade & Festival

August 10

Said to be America’s oldest and largest African American parade, the Bud Billiken Parade goes from Oakwood Boulevard & Martin Luther King Drive, and ends at Washington Park with a free festival and food vendors (1-4 pm). 

11. Marvel at the Stunts at the Air and Water Show

August 17-18

Take the kids to the waterfront near North Avenue Beach to marvel at the daredevil pilots, jets flying in formation, military planes, parachute teams, and more at the free Chicago Air & Water Show. 

12. Go Bop at the Kidz Bop Live Kids’ Concert

August 25 (4pm)

High-energy Kidz Bop Live performs kid-friendly versions of today’s hottest pop hits in a concert for all ages at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park.
