November is that lovely time when the fall activities and festivities are still going on but things are beginning to give way to that wonderful winter holiday season. There are lots of unique ways to get out and enjoy the changing season with your kids this month – here are 3 fun ways to enjoy some fun things to do with the kids in Chicago this November!
- Take the Kids to the 40th Annual Day of the Dead Celebration
As your kids may have seen in the great movie Coco, Dia de Muertos is a joyous event that celebrates and honors life and the memories of loved ones who have died. One of the longest-running events in the city celebrates its 40th annual Day of the Dead celebration this year, hosted by the SGA Youth & Family Services, and will be held in Dvorak Park. Music, face painting, art activities including a giant chalk mural, hot chocolate and Mexican sweet bread will all be happening, and there will be an afternoon procession that has hand-pushed carts and ofrendas, as well as large puppets. Grab your walking shoes and the kids, wear some muertos inspired attire, and you can even bring your own mobile ofrenda to partake in this unique event.
- Bring the Grandparents to the Chicago Toy & Game Week
Chicago Toy & Game (ChiTAG) Week is North America’s largest toy and game fair that is open to the public. The fair brings some of the very best toys and games from all around the world right here to Chicago. Children can meet great characters, play in tournaments, build towers, meet characters, take part in the Young Inventor Challenge, Frozen II Scavenger Hunt, and more! You can get a sneak peek of what toys and games will be hot this year, and give them a demo before the Black Friday deals hit. There will also be a Gator Golf Putting Station, the “World’s Largest Kid-Powered Rocket Debut”, a Yo-Yo Championship featuring contestants from around the country, and photo ops with characters from Star Wars. For the adults, there will be a beer garden featuring Popular Adult and Party Games, and grandparents who attend with children with a purchased ticket get in free on November 24th!
- Take the Family to the Chicago Christmas Tree Lighting at Millennium Park
This year’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will take place at 6p on Friday, November 22, 2019, at Millennium Park’s Wrigley Square. Great entertainment will make for a fun night for the whole family. Jonathan Butler, a Grammy Award-winning artist from Cape Town, South Africa, will perform, after having recently released his second Christmas. Cielito Lindo, the modern Latino Mariachi band made up of 9 family members of the Lucero family who are passionate about inspiring families like yours to come together to enjoy great music, creativity and culture, will put on a lively performance of some traditional music of Mexico. And finally, rag doll Eleanor and the elves from Eleanor’s Very Merry Christmas Wish – The Musical will put on a great show before a special guest appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus. A night with the family not to be missed!
See you there!
