Fall Fun with the Kids

Hopefully your summer days were full of sun, laughter, family vacations, days on the beach and in the park, and making some really great family memories with your kids. Can you believe it’s already time to start packing up the swimsuits and beach balls to put them away until next summer?

Fall is on its way, but that just means it’s time for more seasonal fun with the family! From pumpkins and apples, crafts to cooking, there are lots of fun things to do to celebrate fall and the changing of the seasons before winter comes rolling in behind it.

Here are some ideas for fun fall things to do with the kids this fall:

Pick your own pumpkin at a pumpkin patch

One of the most fun fall activities to do with the kids (and a great photo op for the family!) is to head to a pumpkin patch and pick your own pumpkins to carve and decorate for the season. Pumpkins are one of the most iconic parts of fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc., and it makes it all the better to spend a fun and memorable afternoon picking out your family’s pumpkins at a pumpkin patch together!

Gather friends and hold a pumpkin-carving party!

Host a pumpkin-carving party with some of your friends and family! The internet has printouts you can use to make some really creative and fancy pumpkin carvings with varying degrees of difficulty. Let the kids take a look and pick out their favorites to try.

Bob for apples

While your friends and family are gathered for the pumpkin carving party, bring out a big barrel of water and go bobbing for apples. A classic fall activity, the kids will have a blast laughing their way through trying to figure out how to grab and keep hold of those pesky bobbing apples!

Toast pumpkin seeds

Keep the seeds from your carved pumpkins and toast them up for a delicious treat. Pumpkin seeds are fun to toast, make for a pretty tasty and healthy snack, and are good to eat!

Make some delicious homemade chicken soup

Chicken soup is one of the best things to make from scratch at home, and one of the most kid-friendly things, too. Everyone loves a good chicken soup, and if you make some that you can keep on hand to freeze for the winter, when that winter flu-bug hits, you and the kids will have some good soup and fun memories to help get you through.

Make homemade applesauce in your Instant Pot or Crock-Pot

Another fun thing to make with the kids that they’ll enjoy is homemade applesauce! It’s easy to do, delicious, and healthy – plus a lot more fun and memorable than just buying applesauce at the store.

Plant a winter-friendly indoor herb garden

You’ll be spending a lot more time indoors soon, so give your family some fun now and some fun later by planting an indoor herb garden that you and the little ones can enjoy and tend throughout the cold months of winter. Before you know it, it will be time to go outside and play again!
