A trash pickup experience is being organized in Wicker Park for this summer with the goal of allowing parents and their little ones to have fun while making a difference.
The Garbage Owls Trash Clean-Up for Kids has opened online registration to parents and guardians and their children, allowing Chicago families to come together and make a difference in the community. The gathering is being put together by the Garbage Gals and it is the first ever clean-up event designed for young children.
The children’s clean-up program, called Garbage Owls, is an educational initiative that is an excellent fit for children on summer break from preschool in Chicago, along with their parents. Organizers will provide specific clean-up supplies for children to ensure a safe and positive morning, including tiny gloves, grabbers, and buckets. Games will include “trash bingo,” and participating children will receive a Garbage Owls button to commemorate their efforts.
All children will need to be supervised by a parent, caregiver, or guardian for the entirety of the clean-up event. Parents can use the experience to reinforce the benefits of nature and instill a love of helping to make a difference, adding to their little one’s growth and development outside Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview.
Wicker Park, located on Damen Avenue in Chicago, will be the meeting site for the Garbage Owls Trash Clean-Up for Kids session. It is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM. Registration is free online, and families are encouraged to claim their spots.
