Nature walk to help Chicago families appreciate native wildflowers

An environmental learning center in the Chicago area is getting into the Independence Day spirit this summer with a nature walk experience filled with fields of wildflowers.

The Prairie Fireworks nature walk experience will be open to interested families in the Chicago area this weekend as part of the America 250 celebrations, creating a memorable way to celebrate the nation’s anniversary while helping children gain a greater appreciation for nature. The experience, which will run until the end of July, will use signs to ensure a safe and recognizable path for a self-guided hike.

Attendees will learn more about the influence of the prairie on United States history and culture, tying into the Independence Day theme. It’s an excellent learning environment for inquisitive children who enjoy time outdoors, and it’s suitable for younger children, including those in daycare in Chicago.

The self-guided hike is held in an outdoors area, and parents will want to check the weather to ensure that their little ones are dressed for the conditions and that the sunscreen is packed. The experience also provides Chicago parents with an opportunity to bond through outdoor activities with their children by indulging in their interests in a setting away from home and classes at Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview.

Sagawau Environmental Learning Center in nearby Lemont will open the Prairie Fireworks nature walk experience this Saturday, July 4. It will run every day from sunrise to sunset until Friday, July 31. Admission is free and open to the public.
