Children’s creative art session comes to Chicago museum

A creative art experience curated for families with young children is coming to a popular Chicago museum next month, inspiring the next wave of artists and allowing them to create together.

Family Day: Imagined Worlds, which is part of a monthly program held at the Smart Museum of Art, has announced the start date and time to families in Chicago and the Hyde Park area. The session, which is being organized with help from the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club, will help children and their parents explore the creative works of artist Alma Thomas.

Participating children will use their creative skills and imagination to build mixed media planets and the celestial habitats they will reside in. The gathering is being held, in part, to celebrate Earth Month, while also exploring Thomas’ interest in the cosmos and nature. They will determine what and who resides on the imaginary planet and the colors that it reflects, offering a fun way to expand imagination outside of classes at Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview.

The session is open to children of all ages, making it appropriate for young ones in preschool in Chicago. The goal is to help children and their families create in a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that encourages self-expression and collaboration through art.

The Smart Museum of Art, located on South Greenwood Avenue in Chicago, will host the Family Day: Imagined Worlds creative session on Saturday, April 11, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Registration is open online, and admission is free of charge.
