Children’s theater production to captivate Chicago audiences

A renowned local theater is preparing to bring a beloved children’s book to life in Chicago later this month. This will provide a fun introduction to plays and productions for area families, including little ones that attend Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview.

Leo Lionni’s Frederick, presented by Chicago’s Children Theater, is preparing to take the stage with the goal of sharing the Caldecott Award-winning story with a live audience. The production will be conducted as a musical that features blues, rock, and folk music, which will be performed by actor-musicians.

The plot of the production follows Frederick, a mouse who spends his time daydreaming of the summer season while other mice are gathering food and resources for the winter to come. When the autumn season arrives, Frederick shares a special idea that there is a place for everyone in the world. It’s a suitable message for pre-k children in Chicago to learn about the world around them. The story is one of imagination and community.

The story was adapted for the stage by Suzanne Miller, and the production’s songs were written and composed by Paul Jacobs and Sarah Durkee. The show is suitable for parties of all ages, including toddlers.

The play will be performed at Chicago Children’s Theater, located at 100 South Racine Avenue in Chicago. The production’s opening day is set for Saturday, September 27, with showtimes at 9:30 and 11:30 AM. Lap tickets are available for toddlers for $12.75 per person. General admission costs $52.25 per person.
