Fun Family Things to Do In the Chicago Area for Mother’s Day

Looking for some fun things to do in Chicago for Mother’s Day with the kids this Sunday?

Mother’s Day is one of the best days of the year to just give yourself or the mom(s) in your life a mental break, kick back and relax and celebrate being a mom. It’s a lot of hard work that often goes unrewarded and deserves some real celebration! And what better way to celebrate it than with the whole family?

Take your little ones out and check out some of these happenings going on in Chicago and the greater Chicago area!

1. National Train Day Celebration

Celebrate Mother’s Day in a unique way by also celebrating National Train Day with a little day trip from Chicago. Load up the car and take the whole family to the DuPage Children’s Museum in Naperville. The Train Day celebration is free with museum admission and will have activities for the kids such as a model train demo, train storytelling, and even a box train photo opportunity!

The DuPage Children’s Museum is located at 301 N. Washington St. in Naperville. For more information, call (630) 637-8000 or visit www.dupagechildrensmuseum.org

2. The Great Jewish Family Festival

Come on out to the Westfield Old Orchard in Skokie from 2-7pm for a super fun family celebration. There will be a fair that has games, activities, and even rides, as well as a food court serving up all you can eat, shows, concerts, and you can even top it off with a bonfire in the evening – complete with smores!

The Westfield Old Orchard is located at 4999 Old Orchard Center in Skokie. For more info, call (847) 674-7070. A wristband will cost you $20.

3. The Wizard School Scavenger Hunt

For a truly memorable Mother’s Day celebration with your older kids, head to The Art Institute of Chicago and go on an adventure to look for art that is similar to the people, places, and things in the popular Harry Potter series. You may spend some time wandering around trying to track down giants that are like Hagrid, flying owls that are similar to Hedwig, dragons, as well as other mythical creatures like you’d find in the Forbidden Forest, such as centaurs and unicorns.

The Art Institute of Chicago is located at 125 E. Monroe St. The hunt is on from 1-3pm, and costs $24.50 for adults, $15 kids 10-13 (including museum admission). For more info, call (877) 946-4868 or visit www.watsonadventures.com

4. Mother’s Day Brunch at the Hilton Oak Brook Hills

Treat yourself to a delicious locally-sourced brunch, filled with a wide array of farm fresh foods, plus a kids’ buffet. On special for Mother’s Day, there will be a free family Photobooth, MOMosa bars with complimentary specialty drinks, and a craft station where little ones can participate in a fun interactive activity doing tissue floral arrangement. Brunch is on at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and costs $54, or only $18 kids ages 5-12.

Located at 3500 Midwest Road in Oak Brook. For more info, call (630) 850-5555.

Wherever you go and whatever you do to celebrate this great holiday, have a Happy Mother’s Day!
