The spirit of summer is rapidly approaching in the Windy City, and parents who wish to indulge in that energy with their children will want to reserve a spot at an upcoming production.
The Hula-Hoopin’ Queen is coming to a Chicago theater this May, giving families with young children the chance to witness and experience a play that has drawn the attention and praise of Oprah Winfrey herself.
The production, which was written by Evanston-based playwright Gloria Bond Clunie, is an adaptation of a story that follows three young girls living in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City.
The story combines a fun and light-hearted energy with life lessons perfect for children in daycare in Chicago. The play has also been awarded the “Best of the Best” award by Chicago’s Public Library, adding further credibility to and excitement for the performance.
Parents with children enrolled in daycares like Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview can attend the show to further their emotional connections and share important lessons with their little ones. The play will provide a warm, summer-themed reminder of the little things that bind communities and bring people in them together. The show will run for an estimated 70 minutes.
The Greenhouse Theater Center on North Lincoln Avenue in Chicago will host The Hula-Hoopin’ Queen performances. The opening show is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at 11:00 AM. It will continue until Sunday, May 31. Tickets can be reserved online, starting at $32.50 for adults and $24.50 for children 12 and under.
