Local kiddos will have chance to have fun with Chicago’s notorious wind and updrafts next month, as a local park is organizing a kite-flying event.
Go Fly a Kite is set to welcome spectators and families with young children to a park in Wheaton to discover the magic and joy of flying a kite. The gathering is being organized by the Wheaton Park District, and aims to provide a fun way for parents to bond through outdoor activities with their little ones on days where they are not in class at Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview.
It is open to interested parties of all ages, providing children in pre-K in Chicago and above with a new experience that will keep them busy and help them burn energy.
Attendees will get to witness kite demonstrations from experienced flyers, learning about the basic techniques and tricks. The demonstrations will be followed by the event’s Grand Launch.
Food trucks and vendors will be at the host site to provide refreshing beverages and snacks to attendees. Kites will also be available for purchase, though families are welcome to bring kites from home to use. Children at the event can sign up to compete in the Highest Kite Contest and Kids’ Mad Dash.
Graf Park, located on Manchester Road in Wheaton, will be hosting the Go Fly a Kite event, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Admission is free and open to the public.
