Parenting workshop to provide tools for multilingual families

Health Benefits and Safety Nets Keep You Worry-Free

An informative workshop designed to help parents learn how to best support their children’s development is opening its doors in a few weeks.

The Raising Multilingual Kids: A Workshop for Parents session, which is being organized by Middle Ground Coworking, is set to welcome parents of young children in Chicago who wish to learn more about the ways in which they can better support literacy within the home. It will be a practical workshop, and parents are asked to refrain from bringing their little ones along.

Lillian Ardell, a speech-language expert with extensive experience in bilingual education and advocacy, will lead the workshop. Ardell’s teaching methods will combine real-life practice paired with research-based strategies, making it an ideal fit for parents with children attending daycare in North Center Chicago and the surrounds.

The primary focuses of the workshop will be different practices that support reading with children at home, writing practices children can do, what kinds of questions to ask as a parent, as well as different community experiences.

While many parents already do these things, organizers point out that the workshop can show new practices that lead to small but significant shifts to boost children’s reading and writing skills on top of what they learn at daycare centers like Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview.

The Chicago Women’s Park & Garden, located on South Indiana Avenue in Chicago, is set to host The Raising Multilingual Kids: A Workshop for Parents on Saturday, May 9, starting at 1:00 PM. General admission tickets are available for purchase online for $40 per person.
