Parents who wish to instill a love for reading in their children will want to mark their calendars, as an enriching and positive experience has been scheduled in Chicago.
The Books & Brunch for Kids with Jessica Newman will be welcoming families and their children to a reading event that is paired with tasty treats. Parents who sign their children up can expect for them to enjoy an afternoon that inspires, builds the imagination, and helps to foster a love of reading from a young age.
This session will be led by Jessica Newman, an accomplished children’s author, as she reads her book, Journey with Jessie from Chicago to Ghana. The story will take the audience on an adventure that explores several meaningful themes, including family and heritage, while also taking a closer look at West Africa’s culture and history. It will be an engaging experience suitable for all ages, including children in daycare in Roscoe Village and the surrounding suburbs.
After the story, attendees can enjoy a discussion on the book while eating the brunch food options. Children will also receive a copy of a pre-selected book at the event to take home and continue building on their reading skills. Organizers have scheduled the event for the weekend to make it easier to fit into the schedule for children enrolled in programs like those at Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview.
The Books & Brunch session will be held at Da Book Joint in Chicago. It’s set for noon on Sunday, May 17. Tickets are available online starting at $11.49 per child for general admission, and $28.29 for those who wish to receive a book.
