Vintage theater to spread holiday cheer in Chicago

Happy, Safe, & Learning

A vintage theater in Chicago is continuing its long-running holiday tradition in town, and parents and their young ones are invited to attend.

The 42nd Annual Music Box Christmas Sing-A-Long and Double Feature has arrived at the Music Box Theatre this holiday season, providing a fun setting for parents and their children to bond over the magic of movies and music in a unique setting. The tradition dates back to 1983, when the theatre’s owner decided to air two classic Christmas movies and use the intermission to sing Christmas carols.

Guests can expect to be greeted at the theatre by Santa Claus himself, who will be accompanied by the Music Box’s organist, Dennis Scott. The duo will then lead the audience through a sing-along session of one of the season’s most beloved tunes, with the lyrics displayed on the movie screen. Events like this can be a great way to get little ones who attend Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview interested in the arts from an early age.

The first of two films to be shown will be White Christmas, giving audience members the chance to sing classic songs by Irving Berlin, Bing Crosby, and Rosemary Clooney. The iconic It’s A Wonderful Life will be the second film shown, giving attendees the chance to cheer on George Bailey as he saves Bedford Falls from Mr. Potter. Both movies are appropriate for all ages, including those in daycare in Logan Square.

The highly anticipated experience is now open at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago. The experience will continue on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until Wednesday, December 24. Adult tickets are $17, and children’s tickets are $10 online.
