A cultural experience in Chicago is helping local children learn more about the lives of those in Argentina, courtesy of a museum in town.

The Argentina’s Niños event exhibit has officially opened at the Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago, providing young children in the area the chance to learn more about the experiences of their peers living on the other side of the globe. The exhibit, which is suitable for children in daycare in Chicago, has several areas set up to provide hands-on learning activities.

Families that attend will get a glimpse at how families in Argentina purchase groceries and discover the traditional dishes they eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including empanadas and gnocchi. Another part of the exhibit will give children the chance to kick a penalty shot like Argentine football star Lionel Messi.

For active children, the exhibit will let them scale the Andes Mountains on a rock wall, giving them an opportunity to play outside of class at Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview. The Cave of Hands mural offers families the chance to bond with their children by leaving their handprints, adding to the work of art. All visitors will receive a crafted Argentine flag to take home from the exhibit.

The Argentina’s Niños – Welcome to Argentina event is running until May 10, and guests can visit during regular hours, seven days per week. General admission tickets can be purchased at the museum or online. Tickets are $20 for children and adults, and infants can attend for free.
