Chicago museum announces game creation day

A free monthly program will be resuming at a Chicago museum this May, providing a fun setting for families with young children to bond through creative pursuits.

Family Day: Games on the Go has announced the date for its May event and is collaborating with the University of Chicago to provide a setting for parents and children of all ages to make new friendships through a love of games. The event will be held in conjunction with the university’s Year of Games Carnival.

Participating families will be invited to create their own miniature games to complement their upcoming summer travels and vacations. The idea draws inspiration from artist Alma Thomas, whose mark-making style is well-suited to those who wish to make games of their own. The experience offers a way for parents to limit screen time for children in preschool in 60618 and the surrounding areas by enjoying the fruits of their own creativity and effort.

Parents can design custom pieces and tokens with their children to fit the overall design and concept of the game. The event will also feature a story time segment that is being co-sponsored by the Chicago Public Library. The 60-minute performance is set to begin at noon, providing a fun day of creativity so that children can continue discovering the world outside of Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview.

The Smart Museum of Art in Chicago will host the Family Day event, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Tickets are now on sale.
