Family event to explore Chicago’s history

A family-friendly exhibit is now open in Chicago, inspiring the next generation of historians by taking a closer look at the Chicago Fire of 1871.

The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 Exhibit at the Chicago History Museum will welcome families with children to learn more about the Second City’s history and inspire the spark of learning in younger guests. The exhibit will showcase what happened in the wake of the fire, as well as the growth that sprang from the ashes.

Guests will learn about the crucial events that led to the fire, which lasted three days, and the conditions that made it possible. It is a suitable program for children in kindergarten in Chicago to learn more about their home city.

Visitors will receive a child-friendly walkthrough of the events that transpired and learn more about what life was like in Chicago in 1871. It will take guests from the O’Leary family’s barn toward the east, following the fire’s path. It is also an ideal space to learn about the recovery efforts made and the fire safety procedures that were developed in the aftermath of the disaster, many of which are still used by fire departments nationwide today.

The Chicago History Museum, not far from Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview, is the host of the exhibit, making it the perfect weekend activity for local parents. Interested parties can reserve a time slot online. Tickets start at $17 per person, and children 12 and under can enter for free.
