Chicago parents with children who can’t get enough about cars will have a chance to provide special memories this summer, as a vintage auto festival is coming to the Glen Ellyn community.
The Glen Ellyn Historical Society’s 12th Annual Vintage Auto Fest will soon open its gates to families in Chicago who want to explore, learn about, and appreciate the classic vehicles in the greater metropolitan area. Owners of unique and antique vehicles will display their rides to attendees, with little ones and their parents able to vote for their favorites, and the leading vote-getting receiving the People’s Choice Award.
In addition to the vehicles on display will be the Stacy’s Tavern Museum, which will help families dive deeper into the area’s history by touring a 1840s wayside inn while enjoying free admission. Historians will provide lectures on the different eras of automobiles, and vendors will have historical-themed wares available for purchase at the event.
The experience is expected to be fun for the entire family, including visitors who have just finished a year of learning and growing at Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview. Organizers have added a family crafting area where parents can indulge in creative pursuits that are suitable for children in daycare in 60618 and the surrounding suburbs.
The Glen Ellyn History Center, located at 800 North Main Street in neighboring Glen Ellyn, will be the epicenter of the festival. The doors will open at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 6, and the festival ends at 2:00 PM. The entire event is free to all visitors.
