The warmer months of Chicago are here, and the Illinois Department of Resources is using the summer break to bring the city’s children closer to nature.
The Everyone Belongs Nature Festival will be coming to the Windy City this June to provide an inclusive and welcoming gathering for Chicago little ones to discover, try, and enjoy outdoor activities. Children who attend will have a setting where they can canoe, do yoga, enjoy music, and more to continue helping them grow when school is out of session. It is a wonderful opportunity for parents to supplement their child’s experience at summer camp in Chicago.
The one-day event is meant to show off the city’s green space through William W. Powers State Recreation Area. Instructors and organizers plan on setting up outdoor games to inspire friendly competition. Nature walks will also be held, and interactive workshops will provide enrichment opportunities similar to those at Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview.
A fishing derby will be the main event at the festival, teaching Chicago’s little ones a new skill that helps them celebrate the beauty of nature. Parents will want to check the weather forecast beforehand to ensure their children are dressed for the conditions.
Participants will meet at 12949 South Avenue O in Chicago to take part in the Everyone Belongs Nature Festival activities. The gates will open at 9:00 AM, with the festival ending at 1:00 PM. It’s scheduled for Saturday, June 20. Registration is open online and free for all who want to sign up.
