Summer story walk to exercise young Chicago minds

About Us

A family story walk experience is coming to the Chicago area this summer, offering parents who want to encourage the benefits and strengths of reading to their children an ideal setting.

The StoryWalk: Tiny Owl’s Scary Day experience, which is being organized by the Westmont Public Library, has an official date for Chicago families to mark on their calendars for this June. The experience will feature a family walk in the summer evening, which starts at Diane Main Park in the heart of Westmont.

Families who attend will get to listen to Tiny Owl’s Scary Day, by Petr Horacek, a story that is suitable for young children attending daycare in Logan Square and other local areas. The book tells the story of a young and curious owl who sneaks out to explore the world during the daytime despite her mother’s warnings of the dangers.

Listeners will get to learn valuable lessons about curiosity, paternal protection, and insights about nature, including nocturnal animals like owls. The stroll also gives parents a way to bond with their little ones through quality time away from work and the classroom. It’s an ideal experience for children between three and seven years of age that attend daycare centers like Kids’ Work Chicago Riverview.

Interested families can meet at Diane Main Park in nearby Westmont, which is located at 200 West 59th Street. The StoryWalk is scheduled for Friday, June 12. Tickets and registration are not required to participate, but those seeking more information can call the Westmont Public Library.
